Rugging

I got a tip from a Portland blogger (who's site I can't seem to find anymore) about these great little "wooly worms" that could be found for $0.50/lb at the Pendleton Woolen mill. Wooly worms are long strips of blanket trimmings and are used in the Portland area by crafters for all sorts of fun things, but for the most part they are used for making rugs. So while we were on holiday in Portland, I used some gift money and got over ten pounds for a mere $5!

This was my first attempt at a crocheted round rug. I looked up some youtube tutorials, and ended up being quite pleased w/ it. As you can see, this rug made it's home in the bathroom, and since it's wool, it's very absorbent so works well as a shower rug.

My current wooly worm project is a braided rug and it's taking me much longer to finish, both because it involves several steps and because I want it to be BIG. Here's a look at it's rough beginning and the likely home it will find.

  4. So the question is...what size hook did you use? I started to crochet mine and it was a mess. HELP! I do have a braided one going too but I would really like one of each.
