A case of the Monday's

Did you know that "I don't like Monday's" has been used as an excuse for murder/attempted mass murder? I'm serious, here's the story, and here's the hit song that was inspired by the story. It's actually a catchy tune until you know what it's about.

Here's a photo of Brenda Ann Spencer, the infamous girl who "didn't like Mondays". Now I want you to know, I'm not comparing myself to this girl at all, or saying that I'm about to do something crazy and violent. But I'd be lying if I didn't admit to resembling the girl in this photo most Monday's when 5 O'clock rolls around. There's a deadness in my eyes, my hair is unkempt and I feel like I'm on the verge of being taken away in a straight jacket.

It's best if I start planning for Monday on Sunday. Last night I knew I'd need a pick-me-up meal mid day, but it'd need to be fairly quick and easy. I had some leftover squash on the verge of spoiling, so I centered my recipe search around that. I ended up making this* and my stand-by bread machine bread**. I wish I had some photos to inspire you to make it, because it was so delicious that even my hugely picky "I don't like pumpkin stuff" husband ate it! I also made a plan to hang out with this mama this afternoon which was also, just what I needed!

* I opted out of using the pumpkin seeds, used homemade chicken broth instead of vegetable, coconut milk instead of cream and added peas and lentils.
** I use coconut oil instead of vegetable.

  1. that's really interesting!!! I was just wondering this morning what it was about Mondays that people seem to complain. I don't mind Mondays. I kinda like Mondays.

  2. For me Mondays mean getting back onto schedule...mostly getting the kids back into schedule and all that entails (lunches, enough sleep, to school on time etc.). This is why I love Fridays:)
Kiko you are obviously way more organized than I:)
Sadie what don't you like about Mondays? Also, I bet us moms don't like losing our husbands to work...that's probably part of it hey?

  3. I think that's a big part of it, Christine. I have help on the weekend, and then BAM Monday's here and I'm on my own again. Maybe it will get easier as the boys get older. Also Shawn is gone in the evening on Mondays too, and tues, wed, thurs I have things planned that make the day go faster. I don't like Fridays either.

  4. i used to think i hated mondays, but it was really sunday nights that got me - the anxiety of the anticipation of monday. probably because mondays were back to school and full of social phobias. now my monday (or sunday night) woes are mostly just psychological.
i think your planning ahead strategy is a great idea! i hope your next monday is a peaceful one!
